Receiving your Radiologic Technologist Training in Oklahoma

Training to become a radiologic technologist in Oklahoma usually begins with enrolling in an accredited radiologic technologist program. You can expect to begin your course of study with basic theoretical courses like physiology, anatomy, and classes that teach you what must be observed when working with radiation in a patient care and medical diagnostic setting. Courses become progressively more hands-on as you progress through the program and near completion. Upon graduating, a certificate or degree may be awarded, depending on the length of the program.

Radiology Technician Licensing in Oklahoma

Oklahoma requires all radiologist assistants to successfully complete the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification exam. In order to remain in active status, technicians must complete 50 hours of continuing education every two years. In order to be eligible for ARRT certification, applicants must first complete a radiology program at an approved institution. Technicians must consult the state regulatory board for further instruction on which courses are mandatory to meet continuing education requirements.

Career Outlook for Radiology Tech Jobs in Oklahoma

Expected to increase 28 percent between 2010 and 2020, reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment outlook for radiologic technologists is very favorable. Job openings in the field are expected to increase at a rate that is faster than the national job growth rate due to a proportional increase in the elderly population in the coming years. Salaries for radiology technicians are favorable as the average salary in Oklahoma is nearly $49,000 annually. The average salary in Oklahoma is slightly lower than the national average due to a generally lower cost of living in the state. Industries that report the highest concentration of employment for radiologic technicians are medical and diagnostic laboratories, general and surgical hospitals, outpatient care facilities, physicians' offices, and specialty hospitals.

Individuals who enjoy working hands-on with patients and wish to play a key role in a medical diagnostic environment are likely to find radiologic technology to be an exciting career field. Because education and licensing requirements can be completed in a short period of time, traditional students and adults who are looking for a new career may wish to pursue a related certificate or degree. Positive job outlook and competitive salaries are just a few benefits of becoming a radiologic technologist.
