MRI Technician Schools in New Jersey

Medical technology is an exciting and rapidly growing field to work in. Become part of it by getting your MRI technician degree.

MRI Technician Training in New Jersey

When you become an MRI technician, the medical images you capture will be used by doctors for diagnostic purposes. Because of this, it is absolutely essential to get a comprehensive education from a local technical college, community college, or hospital-based school. Depending on what is offered at your local schools, you may be able to complete a one-year certificate or a two-year associate degree.

Before you can be trusted with medical imaging technology, you need an intensive understanding of the human body and how it works. As a result, most programs start with courses like Anatomy & Physiology and Human Biology. Your curriculum may then move to MRI classes like Radiographic Equipment, Introduction to Diagnostic Imaging, and Radiographic Methods.

Your degree program will likely culminate with a large clinical section. Your school may send you to a local hospital or standalone diagnostic center, where you can work alongside licensed MRI technicians. You’ll likely get the chance to work with hundreds of patients.

MRI Technician Licensing/Certifications in New Jersey

New Jersey is one of many states that requires MRI technicians and radiologic technologists to pursue licensure before beginning their career. All licensing of MRI technicians in New Jersey goes through the State of New Jersey Bureau of X-Ray Compliance.

To receive your license from the Bureau, you must pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists exam or the Bureau-administered radiologic technology exam. Once you have successfully passed your licensing exam, you can receive your two-year license from the Bureau. Remember to renew it every two years to keep your license valid.

If you want third-party licensure on top of your state-required licensure, consider registering with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. You must pass the ARRT exam to get your license. During each two-year renewal period, you are required to complete 24 continuing education credits.
