MRI Technician Training in Massachusetts

To be a successful and effective MRI technician, you need a solid education in several different areas. Since MRI technology is used to get images of many different parts of the body, you need a strong understanding of the human body, specific body part names, and how each body part works. You may take courses like Human Biology and Anatomy & Physiology. In addition, many MRI imaging courses allow you to look at body parts on an MRI machine so you know how to identify different parts of the body.

You must also know a lot about medical imaging, how it works, and how to use an MRI machine safely. Your curriculum will likely include courses like Radiographic Equipment, Radiographic Principles, and Radiographic Imaging. These courses show you how to use an MRI machine, how to identify parts of the machine, and how to use a machine safely.

There are two types of MRI technician programs that can give you the education you need. Many schools offer a certificate that can be completed in one year. You may also be able to earn an Associate's degree.

MRI Technician Licensing/Certifications in Massachusetts

Your work as an MRI technician is very important; the images you capture are typically used for diagnostic and treatment purposes, which is why you must follow rigorous licensing requirements. In Massachusetts, you can earn your license from the Radiation Control Program of Health and Human Services.

The first step to getting licensed is completing your certificate or Associate's degree. You can then take a Department-administered exam or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists exam. Once you receive your license, it is valid for two years. To be eligible for renewal, you must complete 20 hours of continuing education every two years.
