MRI Technician Training in Missouri

There are two parts to your MRI technician training: human anatomy and MRI technology. During your human anatomy and physiology courses, you learn about the different parts of the body and how they work. This in-depth education can help you learn how to identify and image body parts with an MRI machine.

MRI technology is the second component of your education. During courses like Radiographic Equipment, Basic Radiographic Procedure, and Introduction to Diagnostic Imaging, you learn how to use an MRI machine safely and how to capture clear, usable images. During these courses, you also gain quite a bit of practical experience. You can plan on completing 500 to 1,000 hours of clinical experience throughout the duration of your program.

You can tackle these topics with two different types of degrees: a one-year certificate or a two-year Associate's degree. You can contact local technical colleges and community colleges to find out what is available near you.

MRI Technician Licensing/Certifications in Missouri

Many states require MRI technicians to become licensed or certified before beginning their career. However, Missouri is one of few states that does not have any licensure or certification requirements for MRI technicians. This can allow you to start your career more quickly, since you do not have to worry about licensure and certification exams after you graduate.

Many MRI technicians choose to become licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. You must pass the ARRT exam and then apply for your license. Your license is good for two years; to renew it, you must complete 24 hours of continuing education.
