To begin working as an MRI technician, you obviously need experience and training in many different fields of science and health care. To get the in-depth education you need, you must plan on spending at least one year in school. One-year programs tend to lead to a diploma or certificate. Two-year programs in Wyoming often lead to Associate’s degrees.

In the early part of your education, you may take lower-level courses. Commonly required courses include Anatomy and Physiology, Physics, and Basic Health Profession Skills. You may build on these classes with Pathophysiology and Pharmacology for Health Professions.

Once you get into the second half of your MRI program, you may take classes that focus specifically on MRI equipment and technology. Classes you will probably have to take include Magnetic Resonance Imaging Safety, MRI Methodology, Principles of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Sectional Anatomy for Medical Imaging. These courses prepare you for clinical work, in which you use real MRI machines to capture images from real patients.
